Mark your calendars! Dark Souls is going to be released on October 4th. This is being billed as the “spiritual successor” to the 2009 game called Demon’s Souls.
Demon’s Souls may be the best game most of us never played due to a relatively small release and availability only on the PS3. It boasts some of the hardest gameplay ever devised and is described as brutally unforgiving. The multiplayer aspect is unlike anything else. While playing you can find blood spots which will show you how other players just died, leave or read messages warning other players of upcoming dangers, and invade or help other player’s worlds.
Demon’s Souls did the impossible, it made me wish I had a PS3. Thankfully the “sequel” is being released on PS3 and XBOX 360, promises to be even harder than the original, and offers several areas of improvement. Pre-orders even get a free upgrade to the collector’s edition!
This game won’t be for the faint of heart. There’s no hand holding. The enemies will destroy you over and over until you get better. You will die. A lot! But for those willing to stick with it and learn from those deaths a great game is guaranteed.
