Here is a look at what is going on in the music biz.
Making History? : Billboards next release of the Hot 100 will come out on February 17th. But the real big story is will there be new number one? And if so, there is a little bit more riding on this one. The next number one artist will hold the spot of the 1,000th number one song on the Hot 100. Odds on favorite in the clubhouse is Lady Gaga with her new single “Born This Way” (scary and kind of mannish?) set to debut on February 11th. Others in contention are Pink with “F**kin’ Perfect” and the always popular Glee cast which released nine songs from their post Superbowl episode and this weeks normal turn. Of course there could always be a repeat #1, which would push the drama another week. The list started with Ricky Nelson’s “Poor Little Fool” the week the list originated — Aug. 4, 1958.
Breaking Up Is Hard To Do: You might have missed last week, but the band the White Stripes is breaking up. I wonder if they will still be siblings or if that is in the trash too? Also calling it quits is Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz. And we really thought they had a shot. Maybe she is just keeping pace with her sister. Spin takes a look at why you might not be missing the White Stripes.
Grammys: Hey, don’t forget to set your DVR, but the Grammys air this Sunday night. Spin.com ranks the favorites for the major categories. As far as performances go, it has been confirmed that Bob Dylan and Dr. Dre have been added to the line up. It is said that Dr. Dre will be performing with his protegé Eminem. Also slated to perform are Arcade Fire, Miranda Lambert, Muse, Usher, Jaden Smith, B.o.B., Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae, Drake, Cee Lo Green, and Sir Mick Jagger.
Lollapalooza 2011: Eminem, Muse, Foo Fighters will headline the music fest, slated for August 5-7th in Chicago. This marks the 7th year that the festival has been held in Chicago, and also it is the festivals 20th anniversary. A full line up of artists will be announced in April.
