Reports today that Brett Favre is inactive for the Vikings game today against the New York Giants.  This snaps Favre’s streak of starting 297 consecutive games.  Back-up Tavaris Jackson will lead the Giants tonight.

Favre, who was injured last week against the Bills has fought through numerous injuries this season, but ultimately it was a separated shoulder that will sit him down for the first time since 1992.

Jeff Anderson, a Vikings spokesman, announced to the public on Twitter that the 41-year-old Favre was out: “Vikings Inactives — 12, 19, 25, 31, 76, 90, 91…and 4. The streak ends…”

As much as we rib on Brett Favre here on the site, we can still show respect where it was due.  It was a great streak and one that should have probably been left alone at the end of last season.  Either way, Brett Favre will still always be remembered as the NFL’s true Iron Man.  The next closest person to Favre for starts is Peyton Manning, who at his current pace will catch Favre in 5 1/2 years or so.
