Now days, everyone wants an iPod. They are great. And it is easy to fall deeply in love with them. But sometimes, the iPod is just out of the budget for some people. We were lucky enough to be gifted a Kube Player ($39.99) recently to check out and give our thoughts on. The Kube Player is basically an MP3 player that looks well, like a cube. In fact, it is one.
So what is cool about this product? It’s small and fits easily into your pocket. The memory is expandable. Ours came with a 2GB SD card, but you can expand up to 32GB should your heart desire. The company estimates that you can rock around 8000 songs with a card that size. That is way more than any iPod of that size, in fact it dwarfs the iPod in that realm. You can get it in a few different colors, which is always a plus. Upon loading some songs, the sound quality that came through the enclosed ear buds was outstanding. I would use them over my more expensive pairs. Waste not, want not right?
Of course the product isn’t without its drawbacks. The battery only holds a charge of around 6 hours. Which for heavy use means you might be charging it daily or at least a couple of times a week however it does sport a one hour charge time. There is no software for synching your songs to it either. You simply just drag and drop the songs to the player, which can be a bit time-consuming. The construction of the player feels a little cheap, as I was able to pry off one of the sides fairly easy for no reason other than to see if I could.
So the good and the bad is this. If you are looking for an affordable MP3 player where you might not mind if it gets damaged easily or if you harbor a hate of Apple products, this is the product for you. We’ve had ours for a few weeks now and it has stood up to a lot. We’ve used it in our cars, just chilling, and at the gym with no issues. We give this one two thumbs up!
