We teased you about this album last month, and it finally dropped this morning.  Well of course we picked it up, checked it out, and here are our thoughts on Jimmy Eat World: Invented.

We were happy that the band reunited with the producer that worked on some of their best albums, and frankly it shows.  Not that Futures and Chase this Light were bad, but you can tell that Mark Trombino knows how to harness these guys sound better than anyone else.  Here is our thoughts on the tracks.

1.  Heart Is Hard To Find:  This song is the lead track, and doesn’t sound anything like Jim Adkins.  A nice way to start the album because it is not too fast  or too slow.  And is true to their Emo roots.  And a surprising use of the F-bomb in it as well.

2.  My Best Theory:  This is the first single from the album, and has been on the airwaves.  This song is in the mold of Bleed American and is made for the radio.  Doesn’t matter, it is a good song.

3.  Evidence:  The typical soft song that breaks down into hard guitar for the chorus.  This song reminds me of Static Prevails.

4. Higher Devotion:  This song has radio written on it.  But there is an annoying back ground vocal on it.  I don’t know if it is a chick with an annoying voice or a dude stretching too high.

5. Movielike:  I’m beginning to sense a trend.  Sounds like someone got their heart broke.

6. Coffee and Cigarettes:  This songs sounds like Emo and the Beach Boys had a love child.  It’s a reach, and I don’t quite get it.  I’m hoping it grows on me.  It’s the worst song on the album.  Again, has some chick singing on it.

7.  Stop:  What’s wrong baby?  Don’t they treat you like you should?  If you know the lyrics to that song from Bleed American, you’ve heard a song a lot like this one.  That doesn’t mean it is a bad thing, it was just a first reaction.

8.  Littlething:  This song has an anthem quality to it.  It has the retrospective lyrics to it.  I’m wondering if something is up with Jim Adkins voice at this point.  It sounds off at times.  I don’t know if he is trying to do something, but eh.

9. Cut:  The soft acoustic song.  Self loathing their success?  Or questioning life decisions?  Nice change of pace either way.

10: Action Needs an Audience:  The return of the guitar.  Again the weird voice.  Is it a different singer?  I need to research this more.

11. Invented:  The album’s title track, at it is seven minutes long.  Can you say Goodbye Sky Harbor.  It isn’t as long as that track, but it has the musical quality of that one.  It builds.

12.  Mixtape:  This song reminds me of the beginning of a Green Day rock anthem.  Then gets soft.  Exploring the romantic quality of the mix tape.  Nothing says I love you like making listening decisions for your woman.

All in all, a solid album in the mold of some of their others.  This album to me is more Clarity then Bleed American.  Which isn’t a bad thing at all, because both of those albums are great in their own right.  We still recommend this one to pick up.  You can get it for $8.00 here!
