Here’s a quick look at this weeks games. We ended up at 11-5 last week on a few surprises by the Rams and a wide left by the Raiders.
New York Jets (2-1) at Buffalo (0-3): Buffalo showed some moxy against the Patriots last week and the Jets handled business in South Beach. The Bills will see that the Jets defense is much better than New England’s. It could be a long one Bills fans. Jets win this one.
Seattle (2-1) at St. Louis (1-2): Few people thought that the Seahawks would be leading the division this early, just like few thought the Rams would beat Washington last week. Seattle isn’t the same team on the road. And Sam Bradford is beginning to look like the real deal. With the Rams running game banged up, it could be a long day. Seattle strengthens its lead in the NFC West.
San Francisco (0-3) at Atlanta (2-1): Are the 49ers as bad as their record or suffering from a tough opening schedule? Tough as in location of games. Atlanta proved that they are not going to be a push over in the NFC south this year, hanging well with the Saints. This game was a blowout by the Falcons last year at Candlestick (45-10). The 49ers need this game (as we keep saying) but they are breaking in a new offensive coordinator. The 49ers have burned us twice, we can’t pick them this week. Falcons win.
Detroit (0-3) at Green Bay (2-1): Green Bay has to find a running game if it is going to hang in its division. The Lions are playing better and to start the season with three straight division games is tough on anyone. Green Bay lost a thriller on Monday night. They are clearly a better team here. And should win easily.
Cincinnati (2-1) at Cleveland (0-3): The Bengals and Browns tend to get into shootouts at times. But Cleveland is just a horrible team. And Cincinnati is starting to click with a win last week against the Panthers. The Bengals will win this game. Lock it down.
Denver (1-2) at Tennessee (2-1): Is this the same Denver team that started 5-0 last year? Hardly. The Titans had a brutal opening schedule. And get a much easier game with the Broncos coming to town. We are slowly getting on their bandwagon. Watch out for Kyle Orton. He had a great game last week and can throw for lots of yards. But the Titans will prevail.
Carolina (0-3) at New Orleans (2-1): Note to Sean Payton. You have the most accurate passer in the NFL. No need to kick a field goal on 1st down. The Panthers ushered in the Jimmy Clausen era to the tune of 3 turnovers by the rookie. We don’t it clicking for them this week against the champs. Look for the Saints to march on in this one.
Baltimore (2-1) at Pittsburgh (3-0): This is one of those games that you hate to pick. The Ravens had it all working offensively last week against the Browns, and well so did the Steelers against Tampa Bay. This will be the usual defensive battle. We still think the Steelers are the best team in the league right now. And they are at home. The field will run red, but the Steelers will win this one.
Houston (2-1) at Oakland (1-2): Note to the Raiders. Win games that you are supposed to win. The Texans just got outclassed by the Cowboys last week. All the magic was gone. If the Texans can run the ball well against the Raiders, which everyone can, they should win this game.
Indianapolis (2-1) at Jacksonville (1-2): Watch out folks, Peyton Manning is getting hot. Bad news Jaguar fans. These teams are in different classes. Colts win.
Washington (1-2) at Philadelphia (2-1): McNabb returns to Philly for the first time to face his former back up. Will the fans welcome the guy that took them to 5 NFC championship games back? Doubtful, they cheered when Micheal Irvin was almost paralyzed. Vick has been playing lights out, and is a tough mismatch for any defense. Eagles will take this one.
Arizona (2-1) at San Diego (1-2): Still trying to diagnose the Chargers. They always start slow, but when you have a game won, don’t give up two kickoff returns. Wide left was every Cardinal’s fans favorite two words last week as they narrowly escaped with a win against Raiders. This game is a hard one to pick. But the Chargers will win this one.
Chicago (3-0) at New York Giants (1-2): The Giants are unraveling with five personal foul penalties last week against the Titans. They are not playing good ball at all. Chicago escaped Monday night with a win, which shows a lot of moxy to get to 3-0. They have to solve their sack problems after giving up far to many to the Packers. Jay Cutler will still make the strange throw here and there. But should have enough in him to win this game.
New England (2-1) at Miami (2-1): Well, it looks like the NFL is all over the AFC East’s nuts this year with back to back nationally televised games. The Patriots handled business against the Bills last week and the Dolphins got handled. The Dolphins always give the Patriots fits with the Wildcat. We say boo on that, and the Patriots win.
Idle this week are Tampa Bay, Dallas, Kansas City, and Minnesota.
