Ok, ok. So we were a little harsh on our preview of this movie last week. I know I compared it to Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Frankly, it wasn’t that far off in the area of first impressions. But this movie did have some really funny moments.
First of all, I’d like to congratulate Robert Downey Jr. for doing a great job resurrecting his career over the last few years. From the Iron Man films, to Tropic Thunder. This guy has shown that he is still relevent in Hollywood. And he as proven that he is a really funny guy. He has that delivery that works well. I actually found him funnier then the obvious funny guy Zach Galifianakis.
Funny parts? There were aplenty. Have you ever seen a dog masturbate? Watch this movie and you will. Pure comedic genius on that one. What made this movie really funny was you never knew when Robert Downey Jr was going to get hurt again. He took quite the beating in this movie. And just when you thought it was over, yeah they piled it on even more.
The typical hijinks ensue as they cross the country. Forced together by strange circumstances they end up working it out. Zach Galifianakis plays the strange funny guy well. And in the end you realize that he just a normal guy with few friends, that had just lost his father. That tugs on the heart stings just a bit. There was also a nice cameo by Jamie Foxx in it as well. Seeing Zach Galifianakis bounce around in his truck bed was one highlight of the movie.
All in all, a very funny movie (that came in second at the box office) that we highly recommend seeing.
