If you are like us (doubtful, but lets roll with it anyway) your work bench might look like three computers exploded.  Who’s doesn’t right?

This approach to product testing tends to leave a few spare parts lying around from time to time.  And while that isn’t always a bad thing, we still like to be frugal as possible. That’s where this next little device comes in.  The External USB Sata Drive Dock ($73.99) was a real bonus for us to reuse some of our old hard drives.  Our buddies over at Thinkgeek.com were good and kind enough to send us one to test out recently and man were we impressed.

Features

  • Connects to one or two 2.5″ or 3.5″ internal SATA hard drives
  • USB or eSATA connectivity
  • Plug and Play
  • Transfer rates up to 480Mbps with USB 2.0
  • Transfer rates up to 3Gb/s with eSATA

Ease of use?  Check!  You just drop your old SATA drives into this bad boy and viola instant access to any old files left on those drives.  This works just like any other external hard drive would work, but now you have some plug and play ability as well.  Hooks up to the computer (no, the working one) through USB 2.0.  Transfer times were acceptable, it has a small footprint on the desktop.  Frankly, we can’t think of anything bad to say about this piece of awesomeness.

It’s unique, it might be a little specialized for the everyday person.  But if you are as nerdy as us, it might just have a place in your office.
