Activision Blizzard Inc, the creators of such gaming franchises like Call of Duty, have officially pulled the plug on the Guitar Hero franchise.

The games, which got casual gamers more involved on the next generation consoles have had lagging sales, mostly due to the extra hardware that is required to start-up the experience. Also announced last November was Harmonix, the makers of Rock Band and the first Guitar Hero game, was sold by Viacom due to similar sales lags.

Either way, tip of the cap to you Guitar Hero and Rock Band.  If this truly is your swan song, we hope it is a deep, heavy metal love ballad.
